Street parking near the Garden is extremely limited. The streets near the venue are open to individuals with disabilities with a regulation New York City Special Parking Permit. There are many rules and regulations that may apply to your permit so be sure to read the laws listed on the back of your permit. One thing to keep in mind is that NYC does not honor out of state parking hang tags, license plates, or decals. For more information, visit the New York City Department of Transportation website.
Many streets in NYC have alternate side regulations to allow for street cleaning. The red signage with a “P” crossed by a broom will be clearly marked on streets affected. Even metered parking zones are affected by this rule so be sure to read all signs. Read more on alternate side parking here.
The New York City Department of Transportation provides an interactive map that makes it easy to look up parking regulations for any block in the city. Click here to view.
Parking tickets are very common due to confusing signage and rules. The DMV does not handle parking violations and fines must go through the locality where the ticket was issued.
You must respond to a parking violation within 30 days either by paying the ticket or requesting a hearing. Payment online is available through the NYC Finance Department website.
If your vehicle has been towed, you must contact the local NYPD Precinct for assistance. If your car was towed for being parked illegally, it will be taken to a Tow Pound (all boroughs except Staten Island). Be sure to bring your current vehicle registration certificate, driver’s license, and insurance card for the vehicle with you to the Tow Pound. For more information, visit the NYPD Towed Vehicles Information website.
